Categories

A category defines the primary use case a sender is approved for.

Category is permanent

Once assigned, a category cannot be changed. To switch, create a new sender under the category you need and delete the old one.

Authentication

Verify a user's identity or secure access to an account. Time-sensitive, contains one-time credentials or codes, and no marketing content.

"Use 739201 to verify your phone number."

Transactional

Information about a specific transaction or action the user initiated: order confirmations, payment receipts, booking details, delivery updates. Informational only, with no promotional CTAs or upselling.

"Payment of Rs. 1,299 for your subscription was successful."

Service

Two-way conversations for ongoing support or account-related tasks that are not strictly transactional, such as loan approval, order support, appointment scheduling, and support follow-ups. May be proactive or reactive, and must remain non-promotional.

Promotional

Marketing products, services, offers, or campaigns: discounts, launches, re-engagement, and seasonal promotions. Often includes CTAs or links and is subject to stricter delivery and opt-in rules.

"Get 20% off on your next order. Use code SAVE20 today!"

Rules to remember

  • Choose the most restrictive and accurate category for your use case.
  • Do not mix intents. If one sender sends both transactional and promotional messages, Truecaller will disable it.
  • Create separate senders if you need more than one category.
